Beginning in February 2023, Pipeline Analysis, LLC, working with the Benbrook Water Authority, will commence the next evaluation of a portion of the Authority’s wastewater collection system in South Benbrook (See Project Schedule Area). The purpose of the evaluation is to identify elements within the collection system which may need rehabilitation. These efforts are being undertaken in accordance with the Sanitary Sewer Overflow Initiative (SSOI) Plan prepared by BWA and approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in 2018 and are part of a 10-year plan to comprehensively evaluate the entire collection system and help ensure the collection system functions as intended, minimizing the potential for sanitary sewer overflows.
The first phase of the evaluation will involve inspections of sanitary sewer manholes within the 2023 study area. These inspections will be followed by smoke testing of the collection system within the study area, beginning in late February 2023. Video inspection of selected collection system mains is planned to follow the completion of the smoke testing.
Please note that smoke coming from vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground may be observed during smoke testing. The smoke is harmless, has little odor, and creates no fire hazard. The smoke normally does not enter buildings unless the building has defective plumbing or drain traps are dry. Please see our FAQ for more information about smoke testing.
